East-Timor’s good experiences in fighting poverty, promoting peace, human rights and empowering young people will be highlighted at the 6th Brazil Africa Forum with the participation of José Ramos-Horta and Hélder da Costa as speakers.

The 6th Brazil Africa Forum will be held on November 22 and 23 in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, with the theme “Youth Empowerment: transformation to achieve sustainable development.”

Former President of East-Timor, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and global leader in the fight for the promotion of human rights, Dr. José Ramos-Horta will share his experiences in the “Meet the Icon” session, with the theme “The role of young people in promoting democracy and peace “.

“Brazil-Africa relations are extremely important for because of the history, of the geographical connection, and human solidarity. Brazil can further build this Atlantic bridge between the American continent and the African continent. With great pleasure I will contribute to the discussion of ideas on this extremely important subject which is the empowerment of youth. I hope that new contributions can be made to the political powers, whether in Brazil or in the world, in order to concretize what has been said for many years in international forums, in the United Nations and others on the empowerment of youth” says Ramos-Horta.

General Secretary of the g7+, association of 20 conflict-affected countries in the Pacific, Asia, Africa and Caribbean based in Dili, East-Timor, Dr. Hélder da Costa will attend the session “High level partnerships”.

“It’s a very important topic for the g7+ group because we are dealing with the young layer of our society. Therefore, identifying, discussing and seeking solutions to the role of young people in post-conflict countries would be a significant step for us and for humanity” declares Dr. Hélder da Costa.

The 6th Brazil Africa Forum should bring together 300 representatives from governments, companies, universities and potential investors to exchange experiences and generate good opportunities for young people in Brazil and in African countries. Among the various organizations that support the event are the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the Centre for Excellence Against Hunger, the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA), the African Export-Import Bank (AFREXIMBANK), UNITAID and the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP).
